What is DNS?

DNS (Domain Name System) acts as the internet's phone book. It translates human-readable domain names (like iyibir.net) into IP addresses that computers use to communicate.

How DNS Works

  1. Query Initiation: Browser contacts DNS resolver.
  2. Cache Check: Resolver checks local cache first.
  3. Root DNS Server: Directs to the appropriate TLD server.
  4. TLD Server: Points to the authoritative DNS server.
  5. Authoritative DNS: Returns the actual IP address.
  6. Result: IP address is sent to browser, website loads.

DNS Record Types

RecordDescription
APoints domain to IPv4 address
AAAAPoints domain to IPv6 address
CNAMEAlias pointing to another domain
MXMail server routing
TXTText records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
NSAuthoritative nameservers

DNS Security

  • DNSSEC: Validates DNS response integrity.
  • DNS over HTTPS: Encrypts DNS queries via HTTPS.
  • DNS Cache Poisoning: Prevented with DNSSEC.

We offer professional DNS management on our VDS server packages.
